Smoke is clearing

Went to the Doctor yesterday. The Hamstring is only tight, no rupture. Lucky me! But my stretching is a mess. He said that "I HAVE to stretch, my mobility is lousy". No news, but he was a 2:12 Marathoner, so I guess there is some truth in his words... No running for the next two weeks. Hope that biking will be ok.
Yes, Gerald, I saw your result but did not see you. Would have been really great talking to you!
So, I will ramp up my stretching regime from now on. Lesson learned, I hope.  On the pic you can see the leading group around 8,5k. Look at their legs, they stretch A LOT...

Are you sure they stretch a lot? I don't think they do. As far as I know, Kenyans just run and rest (lie around doing nothing). You never read about Kenyan stretching programs.
I am very anti-stretching. I think it does no good and is possibly harmful. In my opinion it puts stress on the muscles, joints, etc. And like the Kenyans, we should be either running or resting. When you are resting, you should not be stressing your legs. Stretching is stressing them, therefore do not stretch.
Also, when you stretch, your legs may become a bit looser for a brief amount of time, but they quickly go back to the way they were. In order to have any significant, permanent effect, you would have to stretch for hours a day, every day, for many months. If you are a yoga sensei, this is possible. For everyone else, it is not possible. This is why I say it does no good.
Runners are not gymnasts - we do not need loose, supple, stretchable legs. We need strength and endurance. So run a lot and rest a lot...don't stretch.

yes, well, this is my Philosophy... -up to now-. But on the other hand, my Hamstrings are really too short. Or should I say my joints are not flexible enough? I think it is more my joints I need to loosen up. Of course I will not overstretch my muscles. Not sure why they never speak about Kenians (not) stretching. I watched a running report about US Marathoners and they showed how they stretch. This was pretty amazing. But again, this is out of my reach. I will do it gently and report about the findings.

Yeah, well US marathoners should spend more time running and less time stretching.
