2012 and 2013
I was thinking the last weeks (well, I am thinking not ONLY during the last weeks...) about my running in 2012 and what 2013 might bring. 2012 was my last year as M45 and my main goal was to train well enough to increase my fitness in 2013. I was also hoping for a good (= sub3h) Marathon in 2012. Spring Marathon was Hanover. 2 weeks prior to the race I caught a cold. Mission finished before it even started, darn. Summer training went well and I could run a pretty decent Half Marathon which I finished in 1:22:13. Not too shabby for an old guy like me. So, it looked like a sub3 would be in reach in Munich. Unfortunately, Munich went bad from the start. I had no power and 4:15min/km pace was hard from the first km on. At 36 k my battery was empty and I finished in 3:07. Still faster than in Frankfurt 2011, where I got injured at 39,5 k and limped the last 2,7 km finishing in 3:12. So, 2012 was not that great seeing the Marathon result. However, it was a good training year. Not sure how I feel regarding my running strength. Obviously, I need more rest after a hard workout, more sleep than I needed five years ago. And, it still looks that running a Marathon still surprises me. What will 2013 bring? I plan on running Marathon as my first priority. May put in some bike km (-oversea- visitors are always welcome!) and will try to improve my swimming (yic!). Ah, well, all that I will do as a M50 guy, that's the coolest part :-) 2013, here I come...!

Yes, entering a new age group is the time to run a good marathon. Go for it!
