Training plans...

There is one interesting observation I like to share with you. A friend of us ran her first Marathon last Sunday. She started jogging 1 year ago. As a mother of two she had a little bit of "free" time every day, so basically she was jogging every day or second day for 20-30 min. During the last months she cranked up the daily Mileage to anywhere between 1 hr. and 2 hrs. No "long run", no tempo runs, no detailed training plan. Well, she finished Tokyo M in 4:11 with a BIG smile on her face. She didn't feel exhausted, no leg problems, just pure fun. Why do I mention this? Several reasons: 1. Bob mentioned in his Blog the training schedule of the new M60 world record holder (2:36) who is basically following a similar rule: Run every day as much as you can, no "long runs". 2. Proper preparation is needed to finish a Marathon. Running every day 1-2 hrs. seems to be proper. 3. Still don't know the relation of Mileage vs. (Marathon)-Speed training runs. But it seems that Quantity means a lot in the Marathon preparation. Comments are very welcome.
