Wasn't a walk in the park today...
...rather an out-and-back run along the Kamakura-Enoshima seaside. Covered 40km in 3:18 which translates to 5min/km pace. The course is flat as a pancake so I can't compare it to my "hilly" Palace runs in October. Weather was good, 12 Celsius and no sun. Legs feel OK. I think that my lack of enthusiasm for stretching contributed to my recent knee pain. So, I started stretching again before and/or after a run. Next Sunday, I have to do 50k and the following Sunday I will try 60k. Won't be doing a long run the last weekend before the race.

You are looking good it seems. Sub 5 min pace. Keep it up.
otsukaresama! Gosh, the planned 60 km sounds like a brute. What about just running 20 km every day instead, you know, like Bob has been talking about?
Hey Joachim
thanks for commenting on my blog. Your words are very helpful and appreciated.
You know I have been reading your blog off and on for a while now.
Anyway, again thanks and any friend of George Sheehan and Stephen Laceys' is a friend of mine ;)
Yes, 60k sounds like too much to me, that close to the race.
As for your friend, 4:11 is a very good time, for a first-timer, who felt great doing it. 3:30 is a long ways away, however.... But her training obviously works for her, so there is room for improvement...unless she starts doing TOO much, and gets injured. Susan Griffen, head of the TELL race, who is not so young, consistently does 4-hour marathons on similar training. She never does speed work because she only has one pace! She does do 3-hour runs sometimes, though.
thanks for your comments, guys. Well, Steve, a REAL Ultra plan shows >20k every day PLUS a long run at the weekend ;-) Can't do that (for now). I stick to ca. 15km/day, one day off and a long run. Last time, the 65k run two weeks prior to the Ultra worked great for me. It is the standard training schedule recommended by the German Ultra Association. But I will not start at 5min/km pace rather 5:15min/km.
