Three runs in one race

Today, we ran Bad Füssing (Half) Marathon. Christiane ran the Half and I did the full as a training run. It is a two looper and we decided to run the HM together. From there on I was on my own. Currently, it is pretty cold in Germany. Temperature was -14 C prior to the start which was at 10:00 am. The organization is pretty good and we could wait in the warm Thermen prior to the start. Christiane settled for a 5:15min/pace and we could keep this pace up to the 13k mark. From there on we faded a little bit down to 5:25min/km. Not sure why but the cold certainly played a role. After 1:53 the Half was over and my own training run started. I settled for a 4:50min/km pace for the first few km. I pick up the pace at the 30 km mark, settling for 4:40min/km. At 35k I decided to give it a try and found I could stay between 4:25 and 4:16 min/km. So, I ran a sort of Crescendo Half Marathon. Got close to the finish line after 3:32:00. Then, I thought: "This is a good chance to finish a Marathon in 3:33:33!" So, I waited 2 m in front of the finish line. Had to explain this to the officials. When I told them the reason they nodded and this seemed to be a perfect explanation! Then, the time was right and the official time is 3:33:33,73. Almost perfect, don't you thing? We had a few Erdinger Non alcoholic Weizenbeer (yummy!) at the post race party. Well, can recommend the race. It's very well organized and you can enjoy the "Thermen" during the weekend.

-14C? Yes, I would say that is pretty cold. Too cold for me....
Continually picking up the tempo made that a great training run. You're a Kenyan!
