never change a running system...

all engineers know this rule.
However, I swapped my training schedule for Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday was 11k with 5min pace, Friday called for 14x (600m/400m) in (1:56min/2:15min). I wanted to be on the track with Namban on Wednesday.
But, as the title says: ...
After a few rounds it became clear that the idea of swapping was kind of stupid. My legs were still sore from the high mileage/pace runs the last few days. I just could not get the speed up and averaged 85 sec rounds only. After 8 repeats I stopped the workout.
Will rest on Thursday and may go out for a beer on Friday.
Let's face it: ain't 20 any more...

Sometimes it just goes like that. But for sure, you do need to plan and space out the harder workouts carefully I find. The long runs definitely don't leave the legs fresh. I think mine are only now really freshening up after a decent period of nothing longer than 20 km. Time to change that though.

Thanks for your comments on mine. I looked for you after the workout to wish you well, but the crowd was eager to make it to the sento. Have a good holiday in Tasmania and let's look forward to and prepare to run a fast and furious Tokyo, 2008!
