the new GARMIN Forerunner 405

while I was in Vancouver, I bought the new 405 since I heard about this new sports watch a lot. Luckily, I did not convert my Windows Notebook to an Apple yet. Otherwise, I could not connect the watch and download the data or upload some routes. In other words: until Fall 2008 I will be the only one at home using the 405 since Christiane is using a Mac ;-)
Here is a picture of my new companion. The watch is pretty big. The weight of 61 gr. is much lighter than the 78 gr. of the previous models 201 and 205/305. Still, a TIMEX Ironman 50 lap weights a mere 34 gr.! I used the watch for some time now and I am quit satisfied with it. It fits perfectly to my wrist and the display is very good. Satellite reception seems to be much faster than with the 305. If the signal gets weak, the 405 interpolates the route in a different way than the 305. Seems to work better somehow. The watch has a lot of functions and connects to a Windows Computer with an wireless USB-stick. Very stylish solution! But: Battery works only for 8h GPS reception straight. After that, the watch has to be recharged. Well, means that I can not use the 405 for the 100k Ultra. I am too slow ;-)
