some calculations...
After the discussion about proper fueling in/before an Ultra I thought I might go through a few numbers briefly. Let's assume that I burn 500 kcal/hr. in an Ultra at 6min./km pace. That means it will take me 11 hrs. to complete the Fuji 5 lake Challenge (112k). So, total of 5500 kcal is needed on top of my daily base line of 750kcal (for 12hrs.). That makes 6259 kcal to burn. 30% of that energy comes from fat. Leaves 4100 kcal to be covered by carbs. My body glycogen will be around 400 grams in total, that give 1440 kcal to burn. The rest, a mere 2660 kcal I have to eat/drink during the run. 3 slices of white bread in the morning with jam, milk, yoghurt, etc. will get me ca. 600 kcal. The rest, 2000 kcal, means 200 kcal/hr. I guess that there will be enough sport drinks, soup, gel, Onigiri, etc. at the course.

But you don't have any fat....
Hope this would be true -at least to some extend- ;-)
Nice calculation, I have never done that. But are you sure, that you can arrange all this in advance. I found the stomach to be the riscy factor. What help will give you a energy bar, that leaves the stomach in the wrong direction?
